Brother Ottmus Cummings and his wife, Sister Wincy formerly attended a local church here in Pembroke. The church at the time stood against the use and growth of tobacco but it began to let down their stand and compromise on this issue, but Brother Cummings stood firm.
Brother Cummings was asked to leave the church so he began praying about where to go. He wanted a place that his family could go that believed in a real standard of holiness. God moved on Brother Cummings to build a church. Mount Zion was built in 1948. Brother Cummings was not a preacher himself but was a great man of God with a vision. The church continued to grow under various pastors.
In 1999 Brother Huston Preskitt was pastoring the church and saw the need of a new and bigger Church. God blessed the Mount Zion with a new sanctuary and the church has seen continual growth. Since the building of the new church, there has been added a new fellowship and dining hall, evangelist quarters, parsonage, and a cemetery. God has truly blessed Brother Cummings’s vision. May God receive all the Glory!!!
